Ingredients

For the Waffles:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks and whites separated
  • 1 2/3 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter or oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Waffle iron
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat the Waffle Iron. Start by preheating your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Step 2: Whisk the Dry Ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk them together until evenly mixed.
  3. Step 3: Prepare the Wet Ingredients. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter or oil, and vanilla extract. Add the egg yolks and whisk until well combined.
  4. Step 4: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients. Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Gently stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Step 5: Whip the Egg Whites. In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Step 6: Fold in the Egg Whites. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the batter.
  7. Step 7: Cook the Waffles. Carefully pour the appropriate amount of batter onto the center of the iron and cook according to your waffle iron's instructions, about 4-5 minutes.
  8. Step 8: Serve and Enjoy. Remove the waffles from the iron and serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Make sure the baking powder is fresh for optimum rise.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding spices like cinnamon or nutmeg.
