Ingredients

Ingredients:
  • 1 15 oz can chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
  • 1 Tbsp tamari
  • 1 tsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder (or more, to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (or more, to taste)

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Oven

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven - Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This high temperature is essential for achieving that delightful crunch.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Chickpeas - Open the can of chickpeas, drain the liquid, and rinse them thoroughly under cold water to remove excess sodium and canning residue.
  3. Step 3: Dry the Chickpeas - Spread the rinsed chickpeas on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and gently pat them dry.
  4. Step 4: Combine Seasonings - In a mixing bowl, combine the tamari, pure maple syrup, smoked paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir well until fully mixed.
  5. Step 5: Toss the Chickpeas - Add the dried chickpeas to the bowl with the seasoning mixture and toss gently to ensure even coating.
  6. Step 6: Spread on Baking Sheet - Line your baking sheet with parchment paper if desired and spread the seasoned chickpeas in a single layer.
  7. Step 7: Roast - Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast the chickpeas for about 25-30 minutes, stirring halfway through.
  8. Step 8: Cool and Enjoy - Once roasted to a golden brown, remove the chickpeas and let them cool slightly before enjoying.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • For longer storage, freeze cooked chickpeas on a baking sheet before transferring to a bag.
  • Experiment with spices like chipotle or curry powder for unique flavors.
