Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water as per cake box
  • 3 large eggs as per cake box
  • 1/4 cup Irish cream
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup Irish cream
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons Irish cream
  • to taste Grated chocolate for garnish

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Toothpick

Method

  1. Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the chocolate cake mix box. Prepare your baking pan by greasing it lightly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix with the ingredients listed on the back of the box. Mix until well combined.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake according to the package instructions, usually around 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Using the end of a wooden spoon or a straw, poke holes all over the top of the cake.
  6. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, 1/4 cup of Irish cream, and 1/3 cup of heavy cream until well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the poke holes in the cake.
  7. In a separate bowl, whip 2 cups of heavy cream with the powdered sugar and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder until stiff peaks form. Fold in 2 tablespoons of Irish cream.
  8. Spread the whipped topping evenly over the cooled cake, and sprinkle grated chocolate on top as a garnish if desired.
  9. Cover the cake and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Allow the cake to cool properly to enhance flavor absorption.
  • Ensure poke holes are deep enough for soaking but not too deep to compromise structure.
  • Chill the cake for several hours for best taste.
