Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil or vegetable oil Coconut oil adds a unique flavor.
  • 1/4 cup popcorn Use high-quality popcorn kernels for the best results.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Granulated sugar will give you that classic kettle corn sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt A sprinkle of salt enhances the sweet flavor.

Equipment

  • Large pot with a lid
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Large bowl

Method

  1. In your large pot, combine the coconut oil (or vegetable oil) and add a couple of popcorn kernels. Cover the pot and heat over medium heat. Wait until the kernels pop.
  2. Once the test kernels have popped, add the rest of your popcorn kernels to the pot. Quickly cover the pot with the lid.
  3. Gently shake the pot back and forth over the heat to prevent burning and ensure even popping.
  4. As the popcorn starts to pop, sprinkle the sugar over the kernels.
  5. Continue shaking the pot until the pops slow down to about 2 seconds between pops, then remove from heat.
  6. Carefully remove the lid and transfer the popcorn into a large bowl. Sprinkle with salt and toss gently.

Notes

  • For optimal freshness, store kettle corn in an airtight container at room temperature.
  • Reduce the sugar to one tablespoon for a lighter version.
  • Add spices like cinnamon for a unique twist.
