Ingredients

For the Marinade:
  • 3 pounds hanger steaks (2 large steaks)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl for marinade
  • Whisk
  • Resealable plastic bag or shallow dish
  • Grill or cast-iron skillet
  • Meat Thermometer
  • Cutting board

Method

Preparation Steps:
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Place the hanger steaks in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steaks, ensuring they are well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably up to 4 hours.
  3. If you’re grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. For a skillet, heat it over medium-high heat and add a splash of olive oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the steaks from the marinade and let any excess drip off. Place the steaks on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until the internal temperature reaches 130°F.
  5. Once cooked, transfer the steaks to a cutting board and cover loosely with foil. Let them rest for at least 5 minutes.
  6. Using a sharp knife, slice the hanger steak against the grain into thick strips. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Marinate overnight for deeper flavor.
  • Let the steak rest after cooking for juicier results.
  • Pair with roasted vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
