Ingredients

For the Wontons:
  • 8 oz raw shrimp shelled and deveined
  • 12 pieces wonton wrappers
  • Oil for deep-frying
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise for dipping
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 3 dashes ground black pepper

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Shrimp Filling
Begin by finely chopping the raw shrimp into small pieces. You can also pulse them in a food processor for a smoother texture. Transfer the shrimp to a mixing bowl.
  2. Step 2: Season the Shrimp
Add the salt, fish sauce, sesame oil, and ground black pepper to the bowl. Mix everything well until the shrimp is evenly coated with the seasonings.
  3. Step 3: Assemble the Wontons
Take a wonton wrapper and place about a teaspoon of the shrimp filling in the center. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with a little water, then fold it in half diagonally to form a triangle. Press the edges to seal tightly.
  4. Step 4: Heat the Oil
In a frying pan or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Step 5: Fry the Wontons
Carefully add a few wontons to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Serve the wontons hot with a side of mayonnaise for dipping. They are best enjoyed fresh.

Notes

  • Using fresh, high-quality shrimp enhances flavor.
  • Seal wontons tightly to prevent leaking during frying.
  • Ensure oil reaches the right temperature for crispy wontons.
