Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 1 servings
Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup steel-cut oats
  • 3/4 to 1 cup water for desired consistency
  • a pinch salt optional

Equipment

  • Jar or container with a lid
  • Spoon
  • Measuring cup

Method

  1. Start by measuring out 1/4 cup of steel-cut oats. This amount is perfect for one serving, but feel free to double or triple it for meal prep!
  2. In your jar or container, add 3/4 to 1 cup of water. The amount of water you use will depend on your desired consistency. If you prefer thicker oats, stick to 3/4 cup; for creamier oats, add a full cup.
  3. If you’re using salt, add a pinch at this stage. This step is optional, but it can really enhance the flavor of your oats.
  4. Use your spoon to stir the oats, water, and salt together until everything is well mixed.
  5. Seal the jar or container with a lid and place it in the refrigerator. Let the oats soak overnight, allowing them to absorb the liquid and soften.
  6. In the morning, simply give your oats a good stir. You can enjoy them cold, or heat them up in the microwave or on the stove. Top with your favorite fruits, nuts, or sweeteners for a delicious breakfast!

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze cooked oats in individual portions for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat with a splash of water or milk for desired consistency.
