Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven - Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients - In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Add Shortening - Add vegetable shortening to the dry mixture. Mix until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Step 4: Incorporate Water - Gradually add water to the mixture. Stir until the dough comes together.
  5. Step 5: Roll Out the Dough - On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Step 6: Cut the Crackers - Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the rolled-out dough into squares or preferred shapes.
  7. Step 7: Bake - Bake the crackers for about 12-15 minutes, until light golden brown.
  8. Step 8: Cool - Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Store cooled crackers in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • To maintain crunch, place a piece of bread in the container.
  • Rewarm stale crackers in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes.
