  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Frosting:
  • 1 can (12 ounces) regular Coca-Cola for the frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cubed
  • 1 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder for the frosting
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar sifted (1 pound if buying by the box or bag)

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking pan
  • Cooling rack

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat Your Oven - Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your cake bakes evenly.
  2. Step 2: Combine Dry Ingredients - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of granulated sugar, 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Heat the Wet Ingredients - In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of unsalted butter, 1 cup of canola or vegetable oil, and 1 can (12 ounces) of Coca-Cola. Stir until the butter has melted and the mixture is well blended.
  4. Step 4: Mix the Ingredients - Remove the saucepan from heat and pour the warm mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Add 1 cup of buttermilk, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix until smooth, but do not overmix.
  5. Step 5: Bake the Cake - Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Notes

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
