  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
For the Frosting:
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 ounces dark chocolate chopped
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Donut cutter or round cookie cutters
  • Deep frying pot or skillet
  • Thermometer
  • Cooling rack
  • Small saucepan

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Dough - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Step 2: Mix Wet Ingredients - In another bowl, combine the milk, lightly beaten egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk these together until smooth and creamy.
  3. Step 3: Combine Ingredients - Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently fold the mixture together with a spatula until just combined.
  4. Step 4: Heat the Oil - In a deep frying pot or skillet, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Step 5: Shape the Donuts - Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness and cut out donut shapes.
  6. Step 6: Fry the Donuts - Carefully place a few donuts at a time into the hot oil and fry them for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Step 7: Drain and Cool - Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a cooling rack to drain excess oil. Let them cool completely.
  8. Step 8: Make the Chocolate Frosting - Melt butter and chopped dark chocolate in a saucepan, then whisk in vanilla extract, light corn syrup, and milk. Gradually add powdered sugar.
  9. Step 9: Frost the Donuts - Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the chocolate frosting and allow excess to drip off.
