Ingredients
  

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for sautéing the vegetables and chicken
  • 1 pound ground chicken the star of the dish
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt enhances the flavors
  • 1 onion, diced adds sweetness and depth
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced contributes crunch and color
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced infuses the dish with flavor
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder adds a hint of spice
  • 1 cup ketchup base of the sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard adds tanginess
  • 1 cup tomato paste thickens the sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce adds umami
  • 1 cup water to thin the sauce
  • 4 hamburger buns for serving

Method
 

  1. In a large skillet, heat the 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and diced green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until tender.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Then, add the ground chicken, breaking it apart. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle the kosher salt and chili powder over the chicken mixture. Stir well.
  5. Pour in the ketchup, mustard, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and water. Stir until combined.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
  7. Spoon the mixture onto the hamburger buns and serve hot.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in a skillet over medium heat, adding a splash of water if needed.
  • For gluten-free, use gluten-free buns.
