Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup cold buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled slightly

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatula or wooden spoon
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Ice cream scoop or spoon

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). This high temperature will help the biscuits rise beautifully.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, granulated sugar, and kosher salt until well combined.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the cold buttermilk and melted butter. Stir gently with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—the dough should be lumpy and sticky.
  4. Using an ice cream scoop or a spoon, drop heaping tablespoons of the dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Space them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
  5. Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top. Keep an eye on them as baking times may vary depending on your oven.
  6. Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm with your choice of butter, jam, or honey for an added touch of sweetness.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding fresh herbs or cheese to the dough.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Freeze uncooked dough for easy future baking.
