Start by draining and rinsing the chickpeas. Reserve the liquid from the can, as you might need it later to adjust the consistency of your hummus.
In a food processor, add the rinsed chickpeas, sliced garlic, cumin, and salt. Pulse until the mixture is coarsely blended.
Next, add the tahini paste and freshly squeezed lemon juice to the food processor. Blend again until combined, scraping down the sides as needed.
With the food processor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil. This will help emulsify the hummus, giving it a creamy texture.
If your hummus is too thick, add a tablespoon or two of the reserved chickpea liquid until you reach your desired consistency. Blend again until smooth.
Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning if needed. You might want to add more salt or lemon juice based on your taste preference.
Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, drizzle with a little extra olive oil, and enjoy with pita bread, fresh veggies, or even as a spread on sandwiches.
