Ingredients
  

For the Dough:
  • 2 1/4 cups bread flour
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup milk (warm)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (warm)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 5 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 envelope instant yeast (7 grams)
For the Custard Filling:
  • 3 egg yolks egg yolks (room temperature)
  • 1 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Cooking Instructions:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the bread flour, room temperature egg, room temperature butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. In a saucepan, combine 1 1/4 cups of milk, 4 tablespoons of sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter, 4 tablespoons of flour, a pinch of salt, and vanilla extract. Whisk over medium heat until thickened.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out donuts.
  7. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the donuts in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Once cooled, fill the donuts with custard using a piping bag or by cutting them in half.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar or serve plain. Enjoy!
