Cooking Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the bread flour, room temperature egg, room temperature butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- In a saucepan, combine 1 1/4 cups of milk, 4 tablespoons of sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter, 4 tablespoons of flour, a pinch of salt, and vanilla extract. Whisk over medium heat until thickened.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out donuts.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the donuts in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Once cooled, fill the donuts with custard using a piping bag or by cutting them in half.
- Dust with powdered sugar or serve plain. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use room temperature ingredients for best results.
- Ensure yeast is fresh for fluffy donuts.
- Store in an airtight container for up to two days.
- For a vegan option, use flaxseed meal instead of eggs.
- Freeze unfilled donuts after frying for later use.
