Ingredients

For the Tilapia:
  • 1-2 lb tilapia fillets Fresh or frozen, both work well.
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil Extra virgin adds a nice flavor.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko Panko gives a lighter, crispier texture.
  • ½ cup grated parmesan Freshly grated is best for flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For that aromatic kick.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning A blend of herbs for depth of flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon cracked pepper For a bit of heat.
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt To enhance all the flavors.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Tongs

Method

Instructions:
  1. Start by patting your tilapia fillets dry with paper towels. This step is crucial to ensure the coating sticks well and the fish cooks evenly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the breadcrumbs or panko, grated parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, cracked pepper, and sea salt. Mix well to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed throughout the breadcrumbs.
  3. Drizzle the olive oil over the tilapia fillets, ensuring they are evenly coated. Then, press each fillet into the breadcrumb mixture, making sure to cover both sides thoroughly.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes. Preheating helps achieve a crispy exterior while keeping the fish moist.
  5. Place the coated tilapia fillets in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd them. Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the crust is golden brown.
  6. Once cooked, carefully remove the tilapia from the air fryer using tongs. Serve hot with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Allow the tilapia to cool completely before storing.
  • Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes to restore crispiness.
  • This dish pairs well with a variety of sides such as roasted vegetables or a fresh salad.
