Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 head cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder for each cabbage steak piece
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons shredded parmesan very finely
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Knife
  • Brush or spoon
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Cutting board

Method

Instructions
  1. Start by removing any outer leaves from the cabbage. Place it on a cutting board and slice it into thick steaks, about 1-inch thick. You should be able to get about 4-6 steaks from one head of cabbage.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter (or olive oil), Old Bay seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and dried parsley. Mix well until combined.
  3. Using a brush or a spoon, generously coat each cabbage steak with the seasoning mixture on both sides. Make sure to get the seasoning into all the nooks and crannies for maximum flavor.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the cabbage steaks in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  5. Cook the cabbage steaks for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time. They should be golden brown and crispy on the edges.
  6. In the last 2 minutes of cooking, sprinkle the finely shredded parmesan cheese on top of each steak and close the air fryer to allow it to melt.
  7. Once the steaks are done, carefully remove them from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving. Garnish with additional parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, try spraying a light mist of cooking spray on the cabbage steaks before air frying.
  • Experiment with different spices! Cajun seasoning or even Italian herbs can add a unique twist.
  • If you find the cabbage steaks too thick, feel free to slice them thinner for a quicker cooking time.
  • Always keep an eye on the steaks as they cook, as air fryer models may vary in cooking time.
